Summary

According to legend, a number of Jews arrived to the town of Oufrane where they created an independent Jewish realm and built their own synagogue. This synagogue still stands, showcasing the 2000 year old Berber Jewish culture. In the 1950's the Jewish community left the area, leaving behind the synagogue which began to decay. It was restored in 1999.
