Summary

With a name that is a jumble of Hebrew words, Hamshushalayim, takes place as a month long event of a mixed-bag of cultural opportunities for the public. The month of December finds Jerusalem jam-packed full of attractions mostly free of charge or for minimum fees. Some of the cities most prominent museums and tourist attractions will be open at no cost for extended hours. Throughout the city, visitors can enjoy outdoor concerts, street performances, live music in Jerusalem’s various cultural and musical performances venues (Jerusalem-oldcity.org). By night, experimental tours for the adventurous types are organized through the Old City, Nachlaot, Hanevi'im Street, the Bucharian Shuk, the Jewish Quarter, Jerusalem rooftops, and more. The city’s restaurants also participate with special discounts and deals as well as dishes and Jerusalem winter soups for flat rates available exclusively during the festival in December.
