Multimedia Editor Criteria

The goal of Multimedia Editors for the WJHpedia is to add multimedia such as images, and audio samples to relevant sites/events. It is crucial that all multimedia has appropriate licensing, and editors must ensure all files meet requirements. One may upload works created entirely by themselves, and by sharing work on Wikimedia Commons, permission is granted to use, copy, modify, and sell these files without notification. Full granted permission is required when publishing or uploading works which do not belong to the editor.

  • Use an image editing program to resize the image to a lower resolution if necessary.
  • Rename the image to include the name of the site/event, and a brief description of the image.
  • The photo quality/size requirement is minimum 1280 x 768 pixels.
  • Files should not exceed 5 megabytes each.
  • Ensure that the photo has appropriate release rights/licensing and follows image guidelines, which are outlined under the ‘Learn’ tab in the upload platform.
  • Use the WJHpedia Image Syntax to embed an image into an article.
  • Use the following steps to upload the image to the site/event and review image guidelines:

  1. Click on the 'login' link on the toolbar at the top right-hand side
  2. Create an account, or log in using your existing username and password
  3. Click the upload photo icon located in the blue header or on the sidebar element
  4. Search for the name of the site/event you would like to upload multimedia to (If you are currently viewing the relevant site/event, please click, ‘Upload to this site/event’)
  5. Review our image guidelines by scrolling down
  6. Click 'next' to continue to the following step
  7. Click 'select a media file to upload' and choose the file from your computer
  8. Once your file has uploaded successfully, scroll down and press continue
  9. Fill in the required fields for 'Release Rights', 'Describe', and 'Use'
  10. Add an image name and title on the edit form
  11. Scroll down and click 'Save page' to finish

Audio Samples

  • Sound files on the WJHpedia generally use MP3 and MPEG formats.
  • Files should not exceed 5 megabytes each.
  • Upload audio samples under the header ‘Voice Link’ on the edit page of the relevant site/event, which uses the same platform and steps outlined in the image upload directions.

Multimedia Editors are required to review sites/events to ensure that all uploads were successful upon saving, and to regularly check that they are up to date.
