Summary

This town is of Roman origin, with many Roman artifacts found over the centuries. However, this town is mostly known for its Jewish population which began during the Middle Ages.

The Jewish Quarter is now mostly cobbled streets and abandoned houses and there stands the oldest synagogue in Portugal. All that remains of it is one small room.
