Summary

In Juan XXIII Square, a lonely plaque on a pharmacy tells readers that they are in the historic Jewish quarter.

History and time period

The most distinct feature is that of the plaque on the pharmacy which marks the entrance to the Jewish Quarter. The plaque signifies a portion of the text from the "Chapter" aimed at the Council of Oviedo by King Sancho IV, in the year 1286. During this time, the privileges of the Jewry of having a separate Mayor to solve any problem among the Jewish community, was eliminated.
