Summary

A "Jewish monument" was discovered in the courtyard of the Parliament, under the eastern stairway, in 1976, which could be a Jewish university from the Romanesque period. This discovery is proof that, at the time of William the Conqueror, Rouen was one of the most important centres of learning in Europe.
