Founded as a branch of the Jerusalem Oud Festival in 2003, the Tel Aviv Oud Festival is held in August annually, glorifying the guitar-like Oud and its origins in the Middle East, Balkans and North Africa. Unique for its collaborations over a range of disciplines, the Tel Aviv Oud Festival hosts artists from various backgrounds to generate a wonderfully unique fusion of belly-dancing, hip-hop music, string ensembles, all against the powerful and versatile sounds of the Oud. Artists from around the Arab world and Israel, at the cutting edges of their genres, will present their work for several days in the Tzavata Theater. The result is a vibrant, incomparable exhibition of the freshest music and art, leading the way in the field of inter-ethnic musical dialogue. In addition to the music, the theater will host Oud displays from Syria, Turkey and Egypt, as well as a music book fair, related cultural events, and a variety of festive regional foods for purchase.
